This is the character customization system for Bankers & Bonkers. I had in mind a large variety of cosmetics to allow users to modify their character as they please, including seasonal or exclusive cosmetics. To achieve this, I needed a system that would allow cosmetics to be added to the game as easily as possible.

As we can see in the image, we opted for an in-scene interface that gives it a distinctive touch and is easy to understand. This inventory is divided into sections, where drawers are used to select the part of the character you want to modify (head, torso, legs, feet). Inside the wardrobe, the acquired items for the selected category are displayed. The wardrobe door allows us to select the facial expression and skin color.
In this case, the items have different rarities, which are shown by the background color of each acquired cosmetic (in this case, all epic/purple). A horizontal band also indicates the color of the cosmetic.
All implemented cosmetics come with a complete set for the head, torso, legs, and feet. However, all cosmetics can be mixed and matched freely, resulting in a vast number of possible combinations.
Let’s talk a bit about the implementation of the system and how we can add a new item to the project.
First of all, the folder structure. In the root of the cosmetics folder, we have a subfolder for each set, and the name of each folder is crucial for the implementation.
Inside, we have a folder for each part of the set, and within each of these folders, there are as many material instances as color variants the part has.
Once the cosmetic set is inside the project, we can implement it so that it appears in the game. To do this, we have a prefab script where you only need to modify the path with the name of the folder you’ve given to the set you’re adding, as well as add the ID, rarity, and the cost of the cosmetic in the store.
After this, the cosmetic will be implemented, and we will be able to access it by calling the function shown in the image on the left, InitMap, which allows us to access the data of each part of the set using the ID and the corresponding part.
For example:
Vec(3,1) → This gives us the data of the torso (1) from set (3).
